Moving can be a very exciting experience, especially if you are moving to a new city. However, it can also be extremely stressful if you do not know an area well, have a lot of things to move, or are unsure of how the home buying closing process works. Over the years, I have moved a few times and have learned a lot. The first couple of moves were extremely stressful, but eventually, I learned ways to reduce the stress so that I could enjoy the excitement that a move can and will bring, if you do it the right way. Here are a few tips that I have learned that have made my moves so much easier and less stressful:
Start Packing Ahead Of Time
I am still guilty of doing this even after all of my moving experience, but learn from my mistakes! Every time I look at my calendar and realize that my moving day is coming up and I still haven’t started packing everything up, I really regret not having started the packing process sooner. Packing in advance allows you to do a little at a time and not have to throw everything into unorganized boxes at the last minute. This is especially helpful when you have a lot of stuff as I do. #NoShame This also helps you out when you get to your new home and know exactly where to find everything in your nice, organized boxes. Seriously, learn from my mistakes and pack as far in advance as you can. It will only help you in the long-run.
Utilize A Real Estate Professional
Hiring a real estate professional (especially if you are moving to a new area) is essential. You will want to find someone that is well-versed in the specific area that you are looking in. So, for example, if you are looking in the Jacksonville area, you will want to find someone like Erin King Jax Historic Realty to help you out. He says, “purchasing a property is most likely the biggest financial decision you will ever make. Whether this is your first purchase or you are an experienced buyer, this decision must be made carefully.” It really is one of the biggest financial decisions you can make, so you need to make sure that as a home buyer, you know all of the facts before signing a contract. Erin E. King can help you with all of your home buying needs in Florida, specifically in Jacksonville. Not only is Erin a Best of Zillow® REALTOR®, but he also has fantastic reviews from his past clients, so you know that you are in great hands when you work with him.
Get Needed Materials
Moving everything you own from one place to another requires a lot of materials. Boxes, tape, scissors, markers, bubble wrap, and so many other small things you don’t even think about. Lucky for us, home improvement stores typically have an entire aisle dedicated to materials for moving so that you don’t have to think too hard about what you are missing. Avoid taking multiple trips and spending the excess time to get the materials you forgot, and visit a home improvement store to get everything you need on the first trip.
Bribe Your Friends
Bribe your family and friends with pizza, coffee, or other treats to expedite your move. We have to address the fact that no matter what you do to prepare for a move, moving is still an extremely hefty process. One way you can lessen the load is by asking some of your best friends to help. Having other people to help you can most definitely expedite the packing process and can also make the move way more fun. Buy your helpers coffee or lunch for helping you, or just show them some extra love – moving is hard!
Hire a Cleaner
Hiring a cleaning service to do the dirty work before you arrive is the way to go for total peace of mind because let’s be real – I don’t want to scrub someone else’s toilet or shower. Knowing that the cleaning was done well and thoroughly before you move in will give you some peace of mind. Plus, it will save you a lot of time and effort!
Moving can definitely be a stressful process, but these are just a few ways to help yourself lower your stress levels. I hope these tips helped you out!
