America is one of the ultimate travel destinations in the world and with good reason! It’s got some of the most amazing sights and sounds that you’ll ever experience. However, there’s one thing that tends to happen time and time again when people are planning a trip to the USA. They tend to focus on the most obvious places possible. Places like New York and California are amazing places, and there are plenty of things to see and do there, but let’s face it; they’re pretty obvious choices. Not only does this mean that you could end up getting bored if you’re going back to those places time and time again, but you’re also going to have to deal with all of the other tourists who flock to those more obvious destinations as well. In order to give you an idea of how much more America has to offer; here are a few alternative places that you can visit on your trip to the USA.
Seattle
There’s a reason that Seattle is often seen as the jewel in Washington’s crown. There are few places with a better mix of natural beauty and culture. If you’re looking for the best things to do in Seattle, then you’d better be ready for a long list! The truth is that this city is one of the most thriving and exciting places in the entire country!
Providence
Providence was once a city that was under the weight of intense poverty but has been reborn over the last decade as one of the United States’ most exciting centres for the arts. With craft stores, award-winning restaurants, and even highly regarded culinary schools, Providence alone is enough to bring discerning travelers to Rhode Island.
Portland
Now when you think of Portland, you’re probably picturing the hipster destination of Oregon. However, Portland, Maine has plenty to offer as well! This is particularly true if you’re in the mood for some truly amazing food. Portland is probably the number one food city in the entire USA and if that’s not enough to sell you on it then nothing will! Not only that but you can enjoy everything the city has to offer without the high prices and pretentious locals of its Oregon namesake.
Detroit
You may have some pretty clear preconceived notions about what Detroit is like. In the 1950s it was an incredibly important part of the American experience but experienced a downturn in the 1970s. However, over the last several years the city has been rejuvenated into an incredibly cool and trendy area; that not only kept its ties to the industry but also has plenty to offer a young traveler looking for some exciting things to do.
Of course, this isn’t to say that there’s anything wrong with visiting the more obvious destinations in the USA. However, if you find yourself feeling bored or that you’ve seen everything that there is to see; there’s a pretty good chance that there’s actually a whole lot out there for you to discover. If only you were willing to look in some slightly less obvious places.
