For women, wearing underwear is not as simple as just, well, wearing underwear. For dudes, it’s as simple as choosing briefs or boxers – and perhaps contemplating the softest fabric – but that is just about the end of it. For us ladies, things are so much more complicated than that. Not only does our underwear have to be comfortable for our bodies, but it also has to be right for the outfit we are wearing, as well as the right material to be breathable but supportive at the same time. Just like most things about being a woman, underwear ain’t no walk in the park.
You have probably, by the time you’re an adult woman, cultivated a repertoire of underwear favorites in your personal collection. But today we ask: have you been wearing underwear wrong the whole time? Read on to find out.
How To Tell If Your Underwear Is Wrong For You
We can all tell if our clothes fit right, right? … Wrong. According to underwear experts, the fit of our underwear is more complicated than whether it says the right size for use on the label. Here are a few signs your underwear just isn’t fitting you right.
- You get red marks on your skin at the end of the day. Girl, we have all been there. Wearing a particularly tight set of underwear might mean you take them off at the end of the day and look something like a recently unwrapped porkchop. If you get digging red marks on your waist, butt, or thighs, your underwear is too small. It might feel snug and supportive, but if it’s marking your skin, it isn’t right for you.
- Thong chafing. Not to get too candid, but… Yikes. Thong chafing is never okay, even if you’ve always experienced it with thongs you have tried. Many women accept this as part and parcel of avoiding visible panty lines through their pants or leggings, but the truth is, thong chafing can be avoided. If you regularly chafe because of your thongs, try buying thongs which are made of soft fabric like jersey or cotton.
- Saggy butt syndrome. Okay, so we aren’t all Kylie Jenner with the perfect perky butt, but if your underwear isn’t supporting your butt at all, it’s time to invest in some new drawers. If your underwear sags around your butt, it isn’t fitting right. Even if you can’t visibly see the sagging through the clothes you wear, you should still get rid of bunchy or saggy underwear which doesn’t nicely cradle you. Your butt deserves better!
- Itching and redness. If your bikini line, thighs or butt get itchy or rashes after wearing a certain pair of underwear, that isn’t just part of the deal. Get rid of it! Castaway the itchy pants! Even after a long day, your underwear shouldn’t be causing skin irritation.
Everyone wears underwear, but that doesn’t mean everyone knows what’s right for them in the downstairs department. Invest in soft, well-fitting pants. You’re worth it.
