How to Apply Blush According to your Face Shape

Blush

Blush creates an optical illusion which makes you more attractive and gives you a more youthful glow, on the other hand, if you apply too much you will look like a clown. Blush is usually applied on the cheeks and it’s the last cosmetic used on the face. Choosing the right color and type of blush for your face is also important and learning the proper application technique.

Choosing the right color is important, if it’s too light or dark it will look unnatural. When trying to find the best color blush always chose one that is close to your skin tone. A known trick used by many is to use the color on your cheeks after a workout or after pinching your cheeks for a few seconds. Darker skin tones perfect match would be wine or burgundy colors, while lighter skin tones would look best with pink hues.

Another factor to consider is the intensity of applying blush. If the color being applied is too deep it can appear loud or flashy on lighter tones and if the color is weak, it will disappear or harder to be seen on darker skin tones.

Blush comes mainly in three different forms: powder, cream and gel. One should avoid using cream, gels or blush with shimmer if they have acne scars or wrinkles. Powder blush can be used on most skin types, especially oily skin types and if you are new to blush then powder is a safer choice. For dry skin, cream blush is recommended because of its moisturizing factors. Gel blush can be difficult to apply and it takes a lot of practice, it does not spread easily and it dries very fast. It is good for oily to normal skin types.

How to apply the different types of Blush

1. Powder Blush

Make a big smile to find the apples of your cheeks, then gently apply the brush with blush onto the cheek apples, start from the middle of the apple and tap lightly upwards to the temple and hairline. Check for harsh lines on your cheek and blend it out with a sponge or a clean brush to buff or soften the color. Always start with a small amount of blush then build up till desire, if the color is not intense enough, repeat the steps till satisfied.

2. Cream or gel blush

Use the same technique as applying powder brush, but use a stippling brush or your fingers to lightly tap the color onto the apples of the cheek and blend in a small circular motion outward. By using the finger for cream and gel blush it heats up the product for an easier application. Apply a translucent setting powder to set the blush or to get a long-lasting wear.
