Glasses can be an integral part of your style. They can be the thing that actually kind of defines you and showcases your personality. You can make such an iconic statement with your glasses that people would be hard pressed to recognize you without them.
The problem is finding the right frames for your face shape to be able to pull it off. The wrong frames for your face can end up having the opposite effect that you intended to make. It’s important to figure out what your face shape actually is and then pick the right frames for it. For instance, semi rimless glasses are not going to work well with a square face.
In this article, I will go over the process so you can choose the perfect frame that will really tie your whole look together.
What is your face shape?
No face fits into a perfect category of shape. Many sorts of take two different shapes and put them together. With that said, you do have to kind of take a few things into consideration and try to imagine your face as a certain shape so you can pick the right frames.
Here are the main shapes that your face should fit into:
- Square
- Round
- Heart
- Triangular
- Oval
Take a picture of your face and then make some straight lines around the edge to see how your face can be considered one of the shapes. Take a look at the sides of your face. Do they run in a sort of top to bottom way without much of a curve? Then it seems like your face is square.
Do that with a picture and you will see how your face sort of fits with a certain shape from the list.
Oval face
If this is your face shape, then you are very lucky, indeed. It is the easiest shape to wear just about any style of frame. Even oversize rims are going to work for this shape. Take a look at the styles that speak to you and pick one off the shelf. Pretty much anything is going to look good. All you have to worry about is the color.
Square face
You need to soften the angles of your face and can do so with the right frames. Choose frames that are rounded, yet thin so they don’t contrast with your angles.
If they are rounded but slightly wider on the sides, while also being a bit narrow from top to bottom then this is good. Have them extend past the cheekbones on the sides.
Round face
Sort of oval-shaped frames is going to work best with a round face to make it seem less spherical. The rims should be thick, however instead of thin.
The shape of the oval shouldn’t be too rounded though. The idea is that there should be a hint of the shape but with some angles.
Heart and triangular
With these shapes, look for frames that are wider at the top of the rim and narrower at the bottom. In fact, the shape of the frame should sort of mimic the shape of the face.
