As the UK braces itself for an increase in domestic travel, Regatta have been taking a look at the UK litter crisis and the results are shocking!
According to Keep Britain Tidy, 23 items of rubbish are dropped every second – crazy right? It doesn’t stop there though, 30% of litter dropped is cigarette related which equates to 244 million cigarette butts each year.
Before you take to the great outdoors, consider the below to ensure you don’t leave your mess behind.
Take Your Rubbish Home
One way to keep the UK litter free is by thinking ahead. Before leaving your house, take a bag with you especially for rubbish, then take this home with you and dispose of it there. By taking your rubbish home you can also ensure it is recycled properly.
This is a very simple way to look after our gardens, fields, parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty.
Bin It
This may seem obvious, but if it were then there’d be a lot less litter on our streets. Essentially, the best way to get rid of your rubbish is to simply put it in a bin. Unless the bin is overflowing then either find another or take your litter home with you.
Think Before You Eat
Before digging into your picnic, consider where you are eating. Many places have dedicated picnic spots which will provide you with places to dispose of your food properly.
When packing for your picnic, try and take as many reusable products as possible, such as tuba wear boxes for your sandwiches rather than wrapping them in tin foil or purchasing from a store. This will reduce waste and keep the UK clean and tidy.
