The Ultimate List of Beauty Essentials You Need for Travelling

Let’s face it, when you leave the comfort of your home, you may have a habit of overpacking. It’s difficult to know exactly what you’ll need when you’re away and what you should bring during your vacation.

When you’re travelling, your makeup bag should be composed of your favourite and most essential products. It’s important to focus on the items that are truly necessary and versatile, as it can be incredibly frustrating having to lug around the extra weight for no reason at all.

Whether you’re an avid traveller or you only venture out on holiday once a year, learning what beauty essentials you need whilst abroad will make your life much easier. Here are eight products that every makeup capsule collection should contain:

Eyeshadow Palette

Let’s be realistic, having five different eyeshadow pallets is convenient but it’s also very impractical. Rather than stuffing your makeup bag with as many individual eyeshadows as possible, you should pack your favourite and most versatile eyeshadow palette. If you tend to stick to neutral shades, we recommend something like the Nars Summer Solstice Eyeshadow Palette. For something with a bit more colour, try The Matriarch Eyeshadow Palette from Prados Beauty.

Tinted Moisturiser with SPF

Another item that you simply can’t do without whilst on holiday is a trusted tinted moisturizer with SPF. This can provide coverage whilst keeping your skin hydrated and protected throughout the day. We recommend a BB cream like the BareMinerals Prime Time with SPF 30 or a CC cream like the E.L.F. Cosmetics Camo with SPF 30.

Makeup Remover Wipes

If you’re going to be applying makeup during your trip, you’re also going to need a way to remove it. We recommend you bring a pack of makeup remover wipes as they offer an all in one solution. There’s tons of different options to choose from, so make sure to find a pack that works best for your skin type.

Assortment of Lip Liners

If you’re someone that loves changing up their lip colour throughout the day, we recommend that you bring an assortment of lip liners with you. Unlike a chunky lipstick, lip liner is not as heavy and it takes up less space in your makeup bag, which means you can bring as many colours as you would like. Simply apply the lip liner all over your lips to achieve the same level of coverage as lipstick.

Concealer

Since you’re opting for a lighter coverage foundation, you should bring a concealer to hide any visible blemishes and counteract dark circles or pigmentation. These come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and formats, so just pick your favourite one. There are also plenty of brands, such as Tarte or Nars, that make travel sized concealers.

Cream Blush

Everyone loves to dab on a bit of blush as part of their makeup routine, however, if you’re looking for a two in one product, we recommend that you purchase a cream blush. These are multifaceted products that can be used as blush, lipstick, and even eyeshadow. We recommend the Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Blush Stick or the Multi-Purpose Cream Blush from Tea Botanicals.

Bronzer

Bronzer is a must-have in any makeup bag, especially if you love that sun-kissed look. You can also find plenty of travel sized bronzers that even come equipped with mini brushes. We recommend the Chocolate Soleil Bronzer from Too Faced and the Hoola Bronzer from Benefit Cosmetics.

Lip Balm

Last but not least, you should always carry around a lip balm in your purse. This is perfect for travelling as your lips can get dry from the changes in environments and weather. For a tried and trusted lip balm, we suggest you pick any of the natural beeswax balms from Burt’s Bees. However, if you prefer yours with a hint of colour, we recommend purchasing the MAC Glow Play Lip Balm or the Tinted Daily Lip Balm from Sephora.

Of course, everyone’s beauty needs are very different. You may find that you never reach for some of the products listed above. In this case, replace those items with your most cherished products, just make sure to keep it contained. Don’t get carried away with overfilling the makeup bag and be ruthless with your packing. However, if you’re certain that you can’t live with a limited collection, we recommend that you purchase mini versions of your products, so you can have your cake and eat it too!
