A busy schedule can run us thin. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to be here, there, and everywhere! And for someone who has to pick up the slack in every corner of life, it can be extremely hard to prioritize what’s important i.e., your family. And it’s time to put a stop to that!
You can’t let a busy schedule take you down, no matter how much you might be enjoying the work you do. It may even be starting to take a toll on your mental health, and the stress may be starting to affect you physically as well. After all, you’re missing out on so many important moments, so something has to give; here are some ideas for freeing up space for your loved ones.
Always Sit Down for Dinner
Dinnertime is such an important time for families. It’s when we get to spend some peaceful time together, where nothing matters but being together and enjoying some good food. And just like in the picture above, it can bring us much closer together!
So if nothing else, make time for a dinner hour in your busy schedule. As soon as it hits 6 or 7 in the evening, it’s time to put the phone on ‘do not disturb’, mute the TV, and make sure you’re focusing on the people in front of you. This is a special time, and you can make it a tradition in your household.
Arrange for Fun Times
Even if you can’t be around for the boring things like getting the kids ready for school, or taking them to the dentist, you can arrange for more fun times together. During weekends, when the work life tends to be a little easier, you can arrange a picnic or a day at a theme park and ensure you and the kids make some really good memories.
They’ll appreciate having you around to hang out with during these fun and exciting moments, and they also work wonders for giving your partner a break too! Time together can be spontaneous and a real laugh, and that’s all you should aim for right now.
Focus on What You Can Do
You can’t do everything, we all know that. We all have our own limits, and at some point, you do have to sleep at night too! So to try and prevent you from feeling bad or guilty about your need to take care of yourself and your family, focus on what you can do.
Small moments here and there, such as picking the kids up from school, or working with a nursing home consultant to provide the best care for your aging mother. You can be there, if not as much as you want, but it’s always good to stay planted in the positives.
A busy schedule can disrupt family time, but it doesn’t have to end it altogether. Use tips like these to structure more family moments here and there.
