No one wants to walk around with damaged hair. We all like to change up our hairstyles which result in it showing damage at some point. Whether we like styling processes such as straighten, curl or perming the hair it becomes damaged over time, also harsh products easily damage curly hair. If you struggle with dry, damaged hair then here are a few tips that will revive the roots of damaged curly hair:
Get regular trim
One of the best solution to treat damaged curly hair is by visiting your stylist to get regular trims. Trims can be once every six to eight weeks. It is known to be the best way to keep the hair healthy. If split ends are left untrimmed it will lead to further damage of the hair shaft. If you are concern about hair length talk to your stylist and let them know that you would like to keep much longer.
Give your hair a break from chemicals and heat
Dying, bleaching, adding color strips the hair of its natural moisture. Take a chemical break to help with the hair recovery process. For colored treated hair consider using henna, it is natural and less harsh on the hair. For reds use henna, indigos for darker hair and citrus for lighter hair. Limit the use of heat and apply heat protector before applying heat. Try aim to straighten hair less time per month.
Make deep conditioning a priority
It will make your hair strong and healthy. By deep conditioning the hair it will retain and restore moisture to dry, brittle, damaged hair. There are many deep conditioning products available on the market and you can also create your own; by combining homemade ingredients such as honey, egg, mayonnaise, avocado and aloe vera. They will nourish and strengthen the hair. Consider doing a deep treatment once every week for best results.
Replace your products
Avoid products that are formulated with harsh ingredients. Stick to products that are formulated for curly hair. Invest in sulfate-free products and avoid silicone products. You want products that will not strip away the natural oils of your hair and cause frizziness.
Do a hot oil treatment
Hot oil treatments can be found at the beauty stores. You can also create your own by using coconut oil or olive oil. Simply warm the oil and apply it to the hair. Leave it covered with a shower cap or plastic bag for up to 30 minutes then proceed to rinse out. Style as desired.
Try a protein treatment
Do a protein treatment once per month until your curls bounce back. Protein treatments protect the hair shaft by putting a barrier around the hair; to improve the hair health and prevent further damage.
How did you restore your damaged curly hair? Did you big chop?
