When it is time to plan your wedding, there isn’t much more of a reality check than when you come to assess the budget for the wedding. You might have a particular wedding in mind, or want more of a relaxed affair. Either way, it is going to cost you money. How much, of course, is decided by you, and by your budget. Having said that, there are certainly some areas that you can save on (that can be done cheaply without looking cheap). However, there are some areas that you really shouldn’t scrimp too much on. But what should you splurge on and where are the areas to save? Here are some ideas to guide you through the process.
Wedding Style: Makeup and Dress
You want to look your best on your wedding day, there is no getting away from that fact. But you don’t want to look too different to normal; which is why it can be a better idea to save on your wedding makeup. It can be a luxury to have someone else do it for you, but it can be just as fine to do it yourself (or have one of your bridesmaids help you out). Instead, it can be better to save the money to get the dress of your dreams or splurge on getting it adjusted to fit you like a glove.
Wedding Day: Photos and Favors
There are going to be so many different things that will make up your wedding day. And one of them is going to be the photographer or videographer. Wedding photography isn’t always the cheapest, but if you are going to splurge on something on the day, then making it be the photographer is a good idea. A good photographer is worth their weight in gold, as the capture the moments from your special day, and they are the memories that are going to last and last, long after the music fades and the guests have gone. One aspect to save on is the wedding favors, for example. They are kind of expected, but as you need one for each guest; it is better to keep the costs down.
Wedding Reception: Venue
Your wedding venue is one thing that you are going to remember for the rest of your life. It will be the backdrop of some of your favorite pictures so you want to get this right. The venue itself should be somewhere beautiful that you adore, and that you want to spend hours on your wedding day. Look into all inclusive wedding venues as this takes some of the stress off of your hands when it comes to other parts of the reception.
Wedding Reception: Music and Decor
The wedding reception is the one big chance to really celebrate now that you are married. So it is a good idea to spend or splurge a little when it comes to getting a DJ for the reception. That is what is going to make it feel like a true celebration or not. In contrast, the decoration of the reception can be kept pretty simple. Bring flowers from the ceremony to fill the place, and make the table settings pretty. Other than that, it can be decorated simply and cheaply.
Wedding Food and Drink
Having an open bar can be a dream for many wedding guests (for obvious reasons). But you don’t need to do it, and it can cost a fortune. Instead, decide with the venue something like an offering of wine, beer and a signature cocktail and keep it at that. If the guest wants more or something else, then leave it to them to pay. As for the food, it depends on what kind of reception you are having. But if you plan to party late into the night; it makes more sense to spend on snacks that keep coming out, rather than on a sit-down meal.

In my opinion, couples should also take note to choose a reception location that is not only affordable but also fits the theme of the wedding. Doing this will make the wedding more memorable and help everyone truly celebrate a union between two families. Read Less

My suggestion for couples planning morning or afternoon spring weddings is to choose a wedding venue that will shelter them from rain and sunshine. Doing this will prevent anyone from getting sick while letting everyone celebrate the union of two families. Read Less
